With co-operation from the Israeli Ministry of Education and the Sacata Rashi Foundation, the Gutman Museum’s A-B-C programme encourages pre-school children to learn to read and write. They are introduced to the concepts through the work of Nahum Gutman who (as well as being an accomplished artist) was a writer and illustrator of children’s books. This is a very engaging way for young children to begin to grasp the fundamentals of the written word, but also grants exposure to a wider world of Art. Accompanying the programme is a travelling exhibition that visits the communities supporting the 60 participating kindergartens. This innovative project was developed with BFAMI’s support to cross educational boundaries and reach out to some of the poorest families in the Tel Aviv area.
