An encounter with a museum can (over time) create a strong cultural and social link to both Israeli and world culture. With a high number of immigrant families from Ethiopia in the local area the programme is designed to reach out to and include these new arrivals and help them to feel part of the community. With art as the catalyst, the next generation of residents in Petach Tikva, both as individuals and groups, can begin to understand their heritage and close the gaps that exist between themselves and the rest of Israeli society. With support from BFAMI, the programme runs for 8 months during the school year and includes practical art workshops, meetings with artists and a series of group activities and lectures culminating in a final group project.
