Eretz Israel Museum | Until 31 August
The exhibition In the Nets features photographic engravings by photographer and poet Danny Nagar , created following a two-and-a-half-year photographic journey around the shores of the Sea of Galilee, during which he documented the lake’s landscapes throughout the seasons, at different times of the day. Nagar chose to focus his gaze on the natural landscape, and the absence of human presence, which expresses the silence and power of the space. The Sea of Galilee serves as a symbolic and cultural space for him – a lake that is a source of life and attraction, from the beginning of human settlement to the present day, which carries deep significance in Israeli society.
From these photographs – which capture the changing seasons and the play of light and shadow on the surface of the water – black-and-white and grayscale engravings were created, which give a sense of depth and poetry. The works succeed in capturing moments in which the Sea of Galilee reveals itself as a sublime landscape, in which there is a harmonious connection between the simplicity of the water and the power of nature that constantly changes. His works demonstrate a precise and delicate approach to working with sketchy lines, which manages to capture fleeting moments in nature and give them a visual dimension.
