Women in Art 2020 guest of honour was French Artist Anette Messager in conversation with Tim Marlow, Director of Design Museum. Messager was awarded the Praemium Imperiale for sculpture in 2016 and won the Golden Lion for best national pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005. She is best known for a heterogeneity of form and subject matter, ranging from the personal to the fictional, the social to the universal. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art will present a major exhibition of her work towards the end of this year.
2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the BFAMI Women in Art Lunch, started in 2001 chaired by Candida Gertler OBE honouring Rachel Whiteread. For the last 20 years we have honoured remarkable women who have contributed to the art world including Marina Abramovic, Jenny Holzer, Phyllida Barlow and Iwona Blazwick to name a few. In this virtual event we celebrated Candida’s foresight and achievement at the event. Broadcasting from Tel Aviv, Candida was in conversation with Director of Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tania Coen-Uzzielli and TV presenter & Social Activist Miri Michaeli, discussing the Museum’s educational programmes dedicated to women at risk.
